introducciones guiadas

Towards Insight - Contemplations of the Buddha

This is another matching set of excellent guided meditations from Dayanandi and Ratnaguna. Here we are introduced to the practice of Buddhanussati – recollecting the Buddha by dwelling on his great qualities. The reflections are based on epithets for the Buddha from the Tiratana Vandana ('Salutation to the Buddha') and is one of the earliest of Buddhist practices.

Produced for the 'Towards Insight' module of the Dharma Training Course for Mitras (year four, module 6).

Towards Insight - Contemplation of Impermanence

Here is a pair of guided meditations where we are encouraged to reflect on the impermanent nature of things, an essential element of Buddhist practice. Beautifully led by Dayanandi and Ratnaguna.

Produced for the 'Towards Insight' module of the Dharma Training Course for Mitras (year four, module 6).

Twenty Four Nidana Reflection

This is guided reflection on the 24 nidanas led by Dhivan, to accompany the 'Conditionality' module of the Dharma Training Course for Mitras (Year 2).

The 12 cyclical nidanas of the Wheel of Life and the 12 positive nidanas of the Spiral path are studied as part of the Conditionality course. Their full meaning however is best appreciated through reflective contemplation. Dhivan here offers a few words concerning each nidana followed by short periods of silence for quiet contemplation.

The 24 nidana reflection given here is a simplified version of the one devised by Sangharakshita.

Learning the Metta Bhavana

Kavyasiddhi gave this talk on the Christmas Oasis Retreat at Taraloka. She says: "It's an accessible talk, given on a retreat open to people of all levels of meditation experience, which shares a personal account of mistaking the Metta Bhavana for a 'manufacture and distribution' process and coming to see it as a key to stop 'fighting' my experience; and how I see the practice as an act of faith in the connected, potential filled Reality, described by the Buddha.

And I look at what metta is and the implications for doing the practice - on one's own mind and, in potential, for the world."

Given at Taraloka, December 2009

Please note, the original sound recording of this talk was of low quality and this comes through on the online version.

Reflections on the Elements

This is the first guided reflection in the series 'Night Lily Garden of the Midnight Way - Emptiness and the Great Compassion'.

Change Your Mind - Body Awareness And Relaxation

Change Your Mind by Paramananda was one of the best-selling meditation books produced by the FWBO. Paramananda's considerable experience of meditation and in social work led him to an approach to sitting practice that tried to take account of the whole person, body and 'soul'. Judging by the popularity of his teaching he seems to have hit on something vital to forming an enduring positive relationship with meditation as a way to transform your sense of self and of life.

Paramananda recorded taped audio guides to meditation for Dharmachakra in 1998, intended to complement his book. His generosity in doing so was considerable, as after an initially very successful sales period he waived his royalties to help support our own work. It's a genuine pleasure therefore to be dusting off those old tapes now and bringing them back to the attention of meditators everywhere, in the same free spirit as they were given to us.

Reflection on the Blue Sky

A Meditation On Our Three Bodies

A helpful introduction to the subtler reaches of body-based awareness meditation, bringing in a sense of our physical, emotional and mental bodies as the basis for deep relaxation and resting in our experience. A guided meditation by Amaragita, led at Taraloka Retreat Centre for women.

Meditation Workshop - Five Breaths

As a companion to her talk, The Possibility of Practice and her guided Meditation on the Three Bodies (physical, emotional, and mental) this workshop is indispensable. Amaragita explodes and expands notions around the practice of paying attention via awareness of the breath, using the deceptively simple exercise of taking just five breaths through the day. We hear how the practice relates to the theory of Buddhist meditation and are encouraged to choose and learn from our direct experience of how we respond to our breath in the moment. There is also a chance to try it out as you listen - and we highly recommend that you do! A moving, quietly revolutionary take on practice for parents, and for anyone who has a full, busy life and needs some tools to take on anxiety and stress. Just five breaths... Workshop recorded on the Mothers Retreat at Traloka Retreat Centre, 2015.

Full Lead-through of the Six Element Practice

Here is a complete guided version of the traditional practice of recollecting the six elements, a strong and moving antidote to narrow, fixed self-views of all kinds. This was recorded on a tape recorder high in the Spanish mountains - listen for the wind rushing through the shrine room!

Recorded at Guhyaloka Retreat Centre, 1992

Lead-through of the Going for Refuge and Prostration Practice

Here Subhuti leads us through the practice in a simple, easygoing way - with all the usual elements, including an evocation of the Refuge Tree of the WBO. This was recorded on a tape recorder high in the Spanish mountains - listen for the wind rushing through the shrine room!

Please note that some small noise artefacts can be heard occasionally on this talk due to a poor original recording.
